Becoming Water-Wise at Home!
26. März 2026
For the past month, SEK 1 has been working on a project to raise awareness about daily water consumption by creating models of their houses. During their research, many students realized that they shower for too long, especially after learning that a 10-minute shower uses about 80 liters of water!
This prompted the students to think about everyday water-saving tips. They realized that saving water at home not only saves energy and money, but it also helps the entire community by ensuring we always have a fresh and sanitized water supply. This directly connects to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.
Student-Approved Water-Saving Tips for Home:
- Beat the Clock: Since a 10-minute shower uses about 80 liters of water, challenge yourself to cut your shower time in half! Set a 5-minute timer or put on your favorite 5-minute song to keep track of time.
- Turn off the Tap: Remember to turn off the water while you are brushing your teeth or scrubbing your hands with soap.
- Be a „Leak Detective“: Keep an eye out for dripping faucets or running toilets around the house and let an adult know so they can be fixed. A leaky faucet can waste liters of water a day!
- Full Loads Only: Remind your family to only run the dishwasher or washing machine when it is completely full.
